Red OakOrigin:Eastern Canada, sometimes also in the Eastern U.S., Central and Southern Europe Color:The heartwood varies from light brown-pink to reddish brown. The sapwood is yellowish white, light to reddish gray. Characteristics:Usually straight fibers. The vessels of the early wood give the longitudinal section a striped appearance. Medullary rays appear in the radial section as pale, shining bands, in the tangential section as brown lines. Application:Suitable for interior work, as flooring, for furniture and rough carving. Is made into chipboard and veneer. |
